In 1924 Mazie Hauck Frey played a pivotal role in organizing the first library in Putnam County by enlisting support from women's literary clubs throughout the county. Mazie's efforts were rewarded with the opening of the library on February 12, 1924. Mazie also served as a library board member and was active in the Study Club.

She worshipped and volunteered at the Ottawa Presbyterian church. She passed away in 1950, leaving a legacy of community service.
